TicTac has been my first ever SwiftUI project, originally started in October of 2022 as a personal project. It began with reminders, then countdowns, then a cash counter. This later got scrapped from the final version because it wasn’t handy.
For a year, TicTac stayed on my personal device with glitchy reminders and countdowns. Then in October 2023, I got challenged to make it publishable on the App Store. I made an app icon, fixed major bugs and added Tasks. It took me less than a month to publish it, and it is still currently available here.
In between, there has been a few updates providing new icons for countdowns or a full iPad support… But what now? This version of the app hasn’t been modified since January 2024, the latest change was to try switching from UserDefaults to SwiftData.
I have recently announced both on stream and on Mastodon, an all new version with an all new user interface. And today, I will show you more content from this new TicTac version…
TicTac v2.0.0
This brand new update uses an all new Xcode project, to allow a better file management, and update all Apple frameworks using my new knowledge. This includes TicTac on TV! TicTac on TV allows any users using the app to display any countdowns on your Apple TV!
Like on the current TicTac version, you can start a countdown Live Activity to display any of your countdowns for a maximum of 8 hours1. The Live Activity will then reside in your Dynamic Island and on your Lock Screen.
Back to reminders, with the upcoming version, you will be able to do much more things with reminders on TicTac. Before, to create notifications in advance, you had to know the amount of hours. Well now you don’t have to anymore! Because later this year, you will be able to add multiple notifications in advance using any date and hour!
You will always be able to remind yourself using TicTac. Of course, this is just a handful of features that will be available on iOS, iPadOS and tvOS later this year on the App Store as an update.
After 8 hours, your device will automatically dismiss the Live Activity from your Dynamic Island, and 12 hours after starting a Live Activity, it will dismiss the Live Activity from your Lock Screen. Source: Apple Developer
