Threaded
It’s now been more than a month since Threaded has released on the App Store. But how did we get there? Well, let me tell it all to you. Through all the 6 months process to create, promote, and publish Threaded.
Threads release in Europe
I am a Europe resident, more specifically in France. And while the Threads hype was slowly fading out, Threads updated their website to put a countdown to December 14th.
The fateful day arrived, December 14th at 12:00pm CET, went on threads.net and signed up using my Instagram account.
The 2 first days, all the new Europeans were surprised by the Threads user interface. So I started the Xcode “Threaded” project. And on December 30th, I showed the first ever version of the app on Mastodon.

On these 4 attachments, we can see the settings page, @Dimillian’s profile, The like, comment, reblog and share buttons, as well as a post statistics. And the we can also see an unaligned “reposted” label.
On the very same day, I announced the project on my main Mastodon profile, and this post is still currently the most interacted post out of all the Threaded posts I did on both @Threaded and @lumaa. With 13 favorites and 14 reblogs.

Dimillian, Thomas Ricouard in real life, is mentioned a lot because the entire back end is the barely modified version of Ice Cubes’ code. Beforehand, I asked him through email if he allowed me to take it, modify it and redistribute it for the Threaded project. And of course, if now it’s on the App Store, it’s because he allowed me.
On the course of 3 months, from December to February, I made all the necessary tabs: Home, Discovery. Around the same time, I invited the first “Round” of beta testers: The contributors and supporters.
Secondary content
Once all the primary features were done and, for the most part, working. I started working on other secondary features and content like widgets for example. While also livestreaming some coding sessions.
Release trailer production
A lot has changed in this release trailer, it includes a lot of unused clips. Here are some of these unused clips!
This video clip would’ve had me rotoscoping the phone and show the Threaded logo, like on my initial sketches (that I lost in during production of these clips)
All of the 3D clips were made in March of 2024 on version 0.4.2 like shown in the end credits, some changes were made like the beginning intro that has been shortened, the widgets part added as well as the Apple Watch clip that I shot in my room, faced in front of a white wall, and recorded using my iPhone 13 using Final Cut Camera.
Fun fact: Some of these unused clips above were used for the April Fools video.
The future of Threaded
Threaded is not dead, and it will not die. A new version is coming very soon with new widgets, Siri Shortcuts, new alternative icons, and a lot more stuff!
Other than version 1.2.0, I hope I can finally release Threaded+ to all users and make some top-level premium features. I’ve been working closely with Fediverse users.
